The Guide
or My First Acid Trip
Strictly speaking, the name of this story is "The Guide," but everyone has always called it "My First Acid Trip" because of the inexpert way I laid out its splash panel. It's a cautionary tale about the hazards of baby-sitting for a bunch of crazed acid-trippers when one has never taken the drug oneself, as well as a spoof of all the dire warnings about psychedelic drugs that came our way during the hippie era.

It was one of my first experiments in mock-autobiography, a genre I've returned to many times over the years. A recent example is My Life As a TV Pundit, which can be found elsewhere on this web site.

"My First Acid Trip" (uh, I mean "The Guide") was first published in Dope Comix #3 (Kitchen Sink Comix, 1979).
