Hell Isn't All That Bad

In this story about surviving difficult circumstances, a fellow named Gofer Buttwart dies and goes to Hell. He rises to the occasion, but it's not an easy adjustment.

In retrospect I realize that the panel above was in some ways an unconscious reenactment of the time in 1973 when I was beaten up by three gay-bashers in Atlanta — except that there was no comparable lack of vindictiveness in those guys' actions. Gimme demons who are just doing their job any day!

The story was originally published in Snarf #9 (Kitchen Sink Comix, 1979).
